Oregon Update: Met with David Strickland (Sen Rockefeller’s office)

Quick update, Stephanie and Sonja just finished a GREAT meeting with David Strickland from Sen. Rockefeller’s office. I found this about him
“David Strickland, senior counsel on the Commerce Committee under Sen. Daniel Inouye (D-Hawaii), who is taking over Appropriations, is considered a candidate for the Treasury Department. He also played an important role on legislation setting standards for toy safety and fuel efficiency. He could also land jobs at the Consumer Product Safety Commission or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.”
She said it was the most amazing meeting and made the trip successful. She was able to communicate with him on the impact the CPSIA has created on our businesses and he was very responsive to them. This might not be their last trip to Washington DC to discuss this issue!!!

Are you sure you met with the David Strickland? The staffer who wrote the bill you want amended? Did he promise any changes?
I agree with the last comment for NordMan. Your account of your meeting with David Strickland is in direct contracdiction with the role he has been playing Behind the scenes and for a while now in fighting our efforts to bring common sense and reason to the CPSIA. Who knows may be we are making more progress than we realize?
We shoud debrief further.
you might be right, there could be many David Strickland’s who work on the Hill, who are experts in the CPSIA. I did a search and was only able to come up with the info above. It would seem weird, but yes, there might be 2 David Sticklands out there.
This is what I know, he is an expert in the CPSIA. He still believes that the CPSC can interpret this law, but if not, he understand the human side now more then ever.
Stephanie said to him, “clearly you did not have any small business person in the room when you consulted on this law”
To this comment, there was sound from the David Strickland from Sen. Rockefeller’s office, that Stephanie might be right and could be useful in a revision if it comes to that.
She told me that he explaned to her what they were trying to do when they wrote this law, and she was able to explane to him what it is doing to small businesses.
